About Us.
Borrowed Kitchen Bakery & Books is owned and operated by husband and wife duo, Lacey & Kory Anders. We started our business in 2010 at the Poulsbo Farmer's Market as Borrowed Kitchen Bakery. The name comes about because we borrowed commercial kitchens in the area in order to bake all of our goods. After several years of exclusively selling at farmers markets we opened a small storefront in 2011. Since then, we have added many facets to the bakery. For many years we operated the Farmhouse Café, serving from-scratch breakfast and lunch to our community. The cafe operated until 2020 when the COVID pandemic caused us to close our cafe. While our bakery business was able to outlast the pandemic, the cafe was collateral damage. We moved locations in the fall of 2020. After the move we launched Farmhouse Foods, a frozen take and bake food and bakery business. The name is derived from our 1890's farmhouse in which we live, here in Kingston. It is also the style of food that we are cooking. The meals and baked goods are back-to-your-roots, comfort food, real honest ingredients types of recipes that we keep on hand for your grab-and-go needs. In the bakery we strive to bring customers high-quality baked goods at a fair price, while still making everything from scratch, by hand, daily for the freshest baked goods experience you can have. We make everything here in-house - from roasting our own meats, to making our sauces jams and soups.
And then they added a bookstore to the mix! Before Lacey's life as a baker she was a bookseller at the locally loved independent bookstore, Liberty Bay Books. Her life-long love of books and reading always left her wanting to open her own bookstore. When she left Liberty Bay Books, she encouraged her friend, Madison Duckworth, to go apply to take her place. That recommendation worked out outstandingly well - Madison stayed there for 11 years! Now, Lacey and Madison are working together to create a bookstore right next door to bakery. With am original focus on cookbooks and stories about cooking, they've expanded the variety of books carried at their new store, Saltwater Bookshop www.saltwaterbookshop.com. Local-interest, field guides, children's books, puzzles, some staff favorites novels and nonfiction can be found as well. Come take a look at what there is in store.
